Hooray, it’s back to school time! As crazy as it is preparing and getting the kids together as they head back to school, it’s a great time for us mommies! It’s the perfect time for us to do things that can help us build our businesses and brands. Before I can even think about my fall plans though, I have to get my son, Jaiden, excited and ready for all his back to school adventures!
We keep Jaiden super involved with activities, especially throughout the school year. I’m always asked how I keep up with everything and I’ll be the first to tell you it isn’t the easiest and most times I need about 50 of me to be everywhere but I make it happen! We make sure there is a routine in place at the start of the school year that we keep up for the entire year. That includes creating a schedule of the week and keeping it in the kitchen. EVERYTHING goes on the schedule and I do mean everything. Doctor’s appointments, extra-curricular activities, homework time, dinner time, bed time, bath time, my husband Brian’s football schedule, menus for the week and of course, chores. Jaiden takes out the trash, makes his bed and even lays out his own clothes each night for school (of course, I still check them out lol). Even my daughter, Brielle, is added to the school year routine! It’s perfect for the entire family, especially because Brian’s back working and starting the season at the beginning of the school year.
Back to school, of course, has its benefits for me too! I use the school day as my time for meetings, planning sessions, interviews, prep for the week, making weekend plans, travel plans for Brian’s games and more. It’s only a few hours each day but you’ll be surprised how much you can get accomplished during the school day when you plan your day. Of course, there are days things happen and can throw your schedule off, like a sick child, an unexpected work task, the internet decides not to work, or you go to “quick” lunch with a friend and end up hanging out for much longer than expected (which isn’t always a bad thing for us moms!) Regardless, find a way to take advantage of the time your child or children are in school. Make time for the things you need to do for yourself and your brand, just as much as you do for your family. We owe it to ourselves!
